LANDSCAPE GARDEN OF KADAKA FARM

The 2 hectare landscape garden of Kadaka Farm is located in the beautiful landscape protection area of Kõrvemaa, 70 km from Tallinn. The garden is bordering with forest and bog where blueberries for the blueberry cheesecake come from. Unlike most city gardens which are about exclusion and isolation, country gardens are about inclusion and connection with the surrounding wildlife. Numerous planting areas with bushes and perennials with colourful leaves and blooms from spring to autumn are a nice contrast to the darker forest.

My husband and me started consciously establishing the garden fifteen years ago. We started with the banks of the pond and today the pond garden is the eye catcher of the garden with lots of shrubs such as Potentilla fruticosa, Spiraea japonica, Lilium, Hemerocallis, Hosta, Phlox paniculata, Salvia nemorosa, Nepeta, Geranium, Thymus Serpyllum and others. Altogether there are about thirty planting areas, including large English perennial borders with typical cottage garden plants such as Aquilegias, Hardy geraniums, Phlox, Delphiniums, Campanulas, Lavenders, Hollyhocks, Foxgloves, Peonies, Roses, Astrantia, Tulips, Alliums, In the last years we have planted fifty different hydrangea paniculata varieties and a long hydrangea paniculata alley along the driveway. Also, there is a 130-meter perennial border along the more wet bog area with Astilbes, Iris

sibirica, Hostas, Eupatorium purureum changing over to Monardas, Phlox paniculata, Aster dumosus, Daylilies, Veronica, Digitalis and other cottage garden plants as the border runs along the forest edge.

We have made the garden our own, changing and adding to it as we are as persons and the things we love.

  • We have been awarded with prizes for our landscape garden in 2018 and 2019 in garden competitions organized by Estonian garden magazines.
  • We have received a reward from the President of Estonia in the competition “Beautiful Estonian Home 2020”

In 2021 we established a nursery for selling perennials from our own garden and various perennial varieties from Holland. For example, we sell nearly 30 varieties of Iris sibirica, 20 varieties of Astilbe. Our main focus is growing and selling hydrangea paniculata, we have nearly 50 varieties of hydrangea paniculata in our garden and about 20 varieties for sale. Plants can be bought on site.
